Rapunzel

Raspunzel is a German fairy tale that was written by the Brothers Grimm in 1812 and published as part of the Children's and Household Tales series (KHM 12).Friedrich Schulz (1790) adapted Rapunzel from Charlotte-Rose de Caumont de La Force's Persinette (1698), which in turn was inspired by an earlier Italian tradition, Petrosinella by Giambattista Basile.
The lonely couple who always wish for a child live nearby a subsistence garden that belongs to a sorceress, which is vast, extensive, but high-walled.During pregnancy, the wife experiences the cravings that often accompany pregnancies, and she notices some rapunzel growing nearby (either a Campanula rapunculus (anise vegetable) or Valerianella locusta (a salad green)).Her husband, worried that she is about to die, breaks into the garden one night in order to get her some food. She refuses to eat anything else and wastes away.In her absence, he makes a salad out of it and eats it, but ends up craving more, so he goes to the garden to retrieve more. As he scales the wall, the sorceress catches him and accuses him of stealing it.He asks for mercy and she allows him to take all the Rapunzel he wants, provided that she receives the child when it's born.[b] Desperate, he agrees. In due course, the sorceress has a baby girl whom she takes as her own and names Rapunzel after the plant that her mother craved.
